Phoned for Pauline Davis, who was out at the time. Was put through to Peter Flynn (Communications Officer), who suggested I look at the website www.newheartlands.co.ukAll the information available is apparently there.
John Glester is appointed Chair of the "Newheartlands" programme. First phase, to develop the "Stanley Rd Corridor" between Boothe and North Liverpool. A cross border initiative. A group called Sustainable Home Ownership Group are creating what they call "Rescue Packages" for homeowners. Also a programme called "Living through Change Programme" is in place to encourage people affected by the Pathfinder Programme to stay, helping them with relocation and funding.
The first project was the demolition of 23 terrace houses in Railway Rd, Rock Ferry. These dwellings were "dilapidated"
A project planned for February 2005 will see 53 houses and apartments in Queens Rd/ Bedford Rd in the Bootle area being demolished/regenerated. Joe Robinson of the Sefton Borough will be responsible for the project.
The Riverside Group are a big partner of the programme. www.riverside.org.uk They run a Tenant Resource Centre.
Tried to contact the Tenant Resource Centre. No answer. Sent an email. Got a reply email from Peter Flynn who said he could not help me with the Resident and Tenant Group information. He refered me to the local authorities delivery team, on the website.
16.11.2004 - Contacted the local delivery team, Liverpool HMRI Team. Spoke with Dave Turner. He informed me that nothing was concrete in the way of which areas have been definitely zoned to be demolished. He says that they are busy setting up a website to give the locals the same information that i was looking for, but it is still under construction. He also said he can't give me any of the details as yet, because it has not been approved for public scrutiny. He will try to send me a brochure and some other information.
22.11.2004 - Phoned the Wirral Council. Got put through to Carla Leyland who is involved with the ADF for that area. She says that it is still in the planning processs and consultation with all relevant parties is currently under way. Put me on to Jane Thompson who will email me a list of Resident/Tenant groups in the ADF area. Made contact with the team that manage the Sefton area. They will email me the latest information on the 5 ADF area in their Local Authority. 02.12.2004 - No email was ever received. Bedford Road/Queens Road , Stanley Road , Klondyke/Canal Corridor , Hawthorne Road Wirral - The Council, in partnership with Wirral Methodist Housing Association, is currently running a pilot scheme, approved by the Housing Corporation, involving the acquisition and demolition of 210 properties in the North Birkenhead area (see list / map link below). These houses are generally poorly located, unpopular, poor condition and low value pre 1919 properties, comprising of a mixture of owner-occupied, private rented and Housing Association stock. Increased abandonment and obsolescence in recent years have blighted the area.
In 2002 the Council conducted a survey of residents and landlords within the following streets to establish their concerns and views on the future of the area:
228 - 248 and 256 - 274 Cleveland Street
43 - 71 Vittoria Street
1 - 67 and 44 - 66 Hilbre Street
1 - 37 and 2 - 38 Lynas Street
1 - 53 Livingstone Street
1 - 17 and 2 - 18 Vardon Street
1 - 17 and 2 - 18 Massey Street
1 - 17 and 2 - 18 Braid Street
99 - 115 Corporation Road
After extensive consultation with all interested parties, including the Ten Streets Residents' Association, it was decided that the most appropriate course of action was to undertake a program of acquisition by agreement, followed by demolition.
Wirral Methodist Housing Association, in partnership with the Council, is currently approaching individual owners to open negotiations to purchase properties, over a 3 year period. It is intended that properties will only be acquired by agreement, at this point, but it may be necessary for the Council to consider the use of Compulsory Purchase powers (CPO's) as the scheme nears its conclusion.
